Tell us a little more about yourself?

I’m Richard, and I’m Head of Pre-Sales at BrightCloud Group. Born and raised in London, I studied at the University of Kent before settling in Mansfield (I know what you’re thinking, things must have gone downhill). I’m interested in cars, I enjoy driving, and I’m a keen sailor and rugby fan. My main hobby is driving “Dad’s taxi”, which seems to be something I do an awful lot.

How long have you worked at BrightCloud Group?

As of October 2019, I’ve worked for BrightCloud Group for 5 years.

Describe to us a typical day as Head of Pre-Sales?

Like many, my days often involve sizeable car and train journeys to meetings or customer sites. Whether I’m out and about or in the office I’ll be on the laptop, making calls or arranging and carrying out demos and completing all of the relevant documentation.

What were you doing before working at BrightCloud Group?

Before working for BrightCloud Group, I spent many years working with Cisco contact centres in various guises, from PM, to Engineer to Pre-Sales.

What would you say is the most rewarding aspect of your role?

I love being a part of the BrightCloud Group team – bright and hardworking people, with great banter and even better shirts.

What is your biggest achievement since working at BrightCloud Group?

I personally think surviving in a house with four kids and reaching the end of each day is an achievement in itself. But on a serious note, presenting at the Cisco Partner event in Amsterdam for 30 minutes, whilst wearing a daft Hawaiian shirt, and keeping it all together throughout, felt like a great achievement.

What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

“The Demo King”

Tell us one funny thing that has happened at BrightCloud Group whilst you’ve been working there?

Nothing that is suitable for public broadcast – but the team definitely know how to have fun!

What’s the most recent piece of tech that you’ve bought and why?

Apple Watch – to try and help motivate weight loss and fitness regime

What item could you not live without?

Quiche.

What’s the most significant change you’ve witnessed in the industry since you started working in it?

The advent of ‘cloud’ has made things interesting for sure.

If there’s one thing you could change about the industry, what would it be?

The prevailing use of the word ‘passion’ or ‘passionate’ to describe work/job/product… it’s almost offensive and not fooling anyone!

Who or what has most influenced your career and why?

A combination of trusted colleagues/advisers and family always manage to help me land on my feet. Our CEO, Alex Morrison, persuaded me into BrightCloud Group – best professional decision I ever made.
